Shakisso Farm

Shakisso sits in Ethiopia’s Guji highlands, 1800–2100 masl, where red‑brown volcanic soils and cool nights give cherries a slow, flavour‑building maturation. The estate itself covers ≈ 640 ha of semi‑forest land and anchors a wider network of small plots across the district.

Ownership & Vision
Founded by industry legend Haile Gebre (often called the Godfather of Guji), Shakisso pioneered specialty production in the region. Beyond the main farm, Haile’s team provides agronomy support and reliable cherry purchase to 300+ neighbouring smallholders, creating both consistency and community resilience.
Certifications & Environment
Shakisso is Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and Fairtrade USA‑certified. Wildlife corridors, native shade trees and on‑site nurseries preserve biodiversity, while raised‑bed drying minimises energy use and safeguards cup clarity.

Cup Profile
Classic Guji elegance: bright citrus and florals up front, stone‑fruit sweetness (peach, apricot) and subtle berry or vanilla undertones. Mouthfeel is silky with a clean, lingering finish—exceptional for both modern espresso and filter service.
At Beans, we partner with Shakisso for its rare blend of pioneering craft, rigorous sustainability and the unmistakable vibrancy that only Guji’s highland terroir can deliver.
